The beautiful building as we see it today was originally built for a very different purpose.
Renowned for his extravagance (you should see the cow shed) when James Brown bought the entire estate for £14,000 in 1894, he wanted an equally grand building for his cars. Where the original stable block once stood, a Mr. Higginbottom was commissioned to design such a building.
Supposedly based on Warwick Castle and completed around 1906, the result became known as, and is often referred to in historical documents as "The Toy Fort"
